2017 LHEC Call for Abstracts
Deadline: October 31, 2016
The conference provides a forum to focus on individual and community pathways to health equity through research, programs, and policies. The interactive annual conference serves an important role in bridging the gap between health research/practice and Latinos to develop strategies for health equity.
Culturally Appropriate Aging Care for Latinos
The 2017 Latino Health Equity Conference will continue the theme of examining the unique health issues faced by Latino immigrant communities in the United States focusing specifically on aging. Latino elders and their family members draw upon cultural strengths including the importance of spirituality and family that can serve as resilience factors. However, elderly Latino immigrants face many obstacles that affect their overall health. There are cultural and systemic barriers in health care, disparities in chronic disease management, limited access to culturally appropriate community resources for eldercare and limited access to palliative and hospice care.
Participants are welcome to submit abstracts for workshop presentations in the following areas of interest:
- Impact of Immigration on Health Outcomes in the Elderly
- Impact of Policies Denying Health Care to Ineligible Latinos
- Integrating Community Health Workers into Eldercare
- Community best practices for Latino Eldercare
- Latino Enrollment and Access to Health Care post-ACA
- Palliative Care for Latinos
- Complimentary Medicine and its impact on healing
- Best Practices for Chronic Disease Prevention and Management
- Mental health care for older Latinos
- Spirituality and faith
